A wave of sorrow and disbelief has swept across the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, following the heartbreaking report that a promising student, Davis, has allegedly been poisoned to death under mysterious circumstances—just days after winning a scholarship to study in the United Kingdom.
Davis, a third-year student pursuing Logistics and Transport, was widely known among his peers for his brilliance, humility, and determination despite his difficult financial background. According to sources, he had recently secured a prestigious scholarship that would have seen him travel to the UK for further studies, a dream he had long prayed and worked tirelessly for.
However, that dream was tragically cut short.
Reports indicate that Davis shared his final meal with a close roommate, who has since gone missing—a development that has intensified suspicion and panic on campus. The sudden disappearance of his roommate has raised troubling questions, with some suggesting that jealousy or envy may have motivated the act.
Davis reportedly began complaining of severe stomach pains shortly after the meal. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away shortly after arrival. The food he consumed is now being tested, and authorities have launched a full-scale investigation.
The UMaT administration released a brief statement expressing condolences and assuring the university community that they are working closely with the police to uncover the truth.
“This is a tragic loss not just to UMaT, but to Ghana as a whole. We are devastated,” a university official noted.
